Empowering Nevada Teachers
The Desert Research Institute’s Science Alive program is heading up the state-wide Robotics Academy of Nevada (RAN) to empower Nevada teachers to inspire, facilitate, and coach robotics education at their schools. The desired short-term outcomes of the RAN are that teachers/coaches are given proper training and support so their students are prepared and participate in robotics competitions. The long-term outcomes are that once a student participates in the robotics competitions they have a better understanding and likeness in the STEM fields and have a desire to pursue STEM careers.
The RAN will consist of higher education institutions, Robotics education organizations, Industry partners, and school district personnel. The RAN will be designed with three main pillars to achieve this goal; trainings, year-long support, and evaluation.
