We create lots of garbage each day, bring it to our garbage cans and then usually don’t think about it ever again.  Where does our garbage go and what can we do to encourage recycling in our community?  How can we bring all this trash talk into our classrooms? Join us for 2 days of learning as we “Follow the Waste Stream.”

Our journey begins at The Southern Nevada Recycling Center in North Las Vegas where we will engage in conversation surrounding recycling in our schools and community.  After a lite bite, We will tour the Southern Nevada Recycling facility (the largest residential recycling facility in North America).

On Saturday morning we will meet at the Sands Palazzo hotel and board a bus to visit the tipping station and the Apex Landfill (the largest Landfill in North America). Experts from Republic Services and the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection will be with us to walk us through each of these facilities to learn what happens to our garbage.  Back at the Palazzo in the afternoon we will engage in hands-on activities to bring what we have learned back in to our classroom.  Participants will receive 0.5 in-service credit from the Nevada Department of Education.  Light dinner, snacks & full lunch will be provided.  Registration is free and space is limited.  Please only sign up if you can guarantee you’ll be in attendance.
